Only a faction is in the ground
There may not be a corn crop for some Indiana farmers this year.
The latest crop report for the state says just 22-percent of the state's corn is in the ground, compared to 94% this time last year. In addition, only 11% of soybeans have been planted, compared to 85% this time last year.. Usually farmers are almost done with planting.
The wet spring is to blame.
Farmers say they want to have their corn planted by June 5th, after that they may plant soybeans instead.
Some farmers are also racing against time with insurance companies. If corn isn’t planted by June 25, and if soybeans aren’t planted by July 15, that means no insurance.
