Welfare Check Leads To Arrest

Nodding off and Erratic Behavior

Thursday Evening @ approximately 5:48 PM Madison Police responded to the area of the Rucker Sports Complex reference a welfare check on a female and a small child.  The caller reported the individual in the vehicle appeared to be nodding off and was displaying erratic movements. 

Officers Camerson Blankenship, Zack Nicholson and Nichole Midgett respponded and located the vehicle in question.  Officers identified the adult occupant as Alexus B. Chatham 28, Madison, Indiana.  A small child was also present in the vehicle.  

Further investigation led to the discovery of illegal drugs in Chatham's vehicle.  She was taken into custody without incident and faces the following preliminary alleged charges of  - maintaining a common nuisance L-6 felony, possession of methamphetamine L-6 felony, possession of a legendary drug L-6 felony and neglect of a dependent L-6 felony.  

The Department of Child Services was contacted regarding the small child.  Alexus Chatham has the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.
