US 421 Culvert Project Begins Wednesday

South of Versailles

Indiana Department of Transportation’s contractor for an $800,000 small structure replacement project plans to begin widening operations on U.S. Highway 421 south of Versailles in Johnson Township this Wednesday (APRIL 11), weather permitting, to accommodate single-lane traffic during operations at a culvert installation site.

Paul H. Rohe Company of Aurora, the state’s contractor, is charged with removing the existing U.S. 421 structure that carries a branch of Graham Creek and replacing it with a concrete box culvert measuring 66 feet in length with 32 feet of clear roadway side-to-side.  Temporary signals are scheduled to be installed Friday (APRIL 13) to regulate one-direction-at-a-time traffic at the construction site—located 14.84 miles north of State Road 250 near Correct.  Restrictions will continue to up to 60 days.

U.S. 421 traffic count at the Graham Creek branch is 3780 vehicles per day.

Last year, a Ripley County structure on U.S. 50 was also replaced under this contract.
