(Madison, Ind.) - New information has been released by the Indiana State Police Department, regarding the fatal crash that involved three local students which occurred on state route 256 at Thompson Road on Thursday, January 9.
According to the Indiana State Police the driver of the vehicle Blake Coombs,18, allegedly fled from lawful detention in Richmond, Indiana and is being investigated for vehicle theft from the facility.
In addition to this information, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department is also investigating a burglary that occurred on January 9, involving stolen power tools as well as a 40-inch television.
At the scene of the crash law enforcement was provided information that Coombs, and passenger Tyler Cooley were the possible suspects in the burglary.
Law enforcement located remnants of a television as well power tools were found near the scene of the crash.

Over the weekend, Brian James, the father of one of the victims, had an encounter with law enforcement on January 11, and gave verbal indication to officers that he was a danger to himself and others.
While at the Sheriff’s Department, James was detained on an outstanding warrant from November 1, 2019 for a domestic incident that allegedly occurred on October 29, 2019.
The Indiana State Police department says,
“These charges are merely allegations and all suspects are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”
