Two-Vehicle Injury Accident in Henry County Results in Multiple Injured and the Death of One Juvenile Passenger

After several days in the hospital, the juvenile passenger airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital succumbed to his injuries sustained during the collision.  Colston Melton (14) of Pendleton, KY was pronounced deceased by the Jefferson County Coroner on March 19, 2019.  Next of kin was present at the hospital at the time of his passing and has been notified.

 

New Castle, Ky. (March 14, 2019)  On March 13, 2019, at approximately 9:14 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 5 Dispatch received a 911 call in reference to a two-vehicle injury accident on Highway 146 (LaGrange Rd.) near Jackson Road.  The preliminary investigation revealed that the two vehicles involved were traveling opposite of each other on the highway and a head on collision occurred, resulting in multiple occupants sustaining serious injuries.  There were eight total occupants involved in the collision between the two vehicles.  

 

Due to the severity of the collision, multiple emergency service departments were initially dispatched to the scene to include the Kentucky State Police, Henry County EMS, New Castle Fire Department and the Lake Jericho Fire Department.  As a result of the collision, several of the occupants within the vehicles were extricated by mechanical means.  Air Methods was dispatched to scene to transport three of the occupants involved who sustained serious injuries.

 

The operators of both vehicles and a juvenile passenger were airlifted from the scene by Air Methods.  The two operators were airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of their serious injuries.  The juvenile passenger was airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital for treatment of their serious injuries.  The remaining five occupants were juveniles and transported via Henry County EMS to Norton Children’s Hospital for treatment of their non-life threatening injuries.     . 

 

The Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation of the collision, which is active and ongoing at this time.  KSP Post 5 accident re-constructionists will be furthering the investigation.

 

The Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by the Henry County EMS, Oldham County EMS, Air Methods, Lake Jericho Fire Department, New Castle Fire Department, the Henry County State Highway Department and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
