(Madison, Ind.) - On Friday, May 29 a two-story structure fire closed down the 800 block of Main Street between Cragmont and Vernon Street for multiple hours as crews worked to extinguish the flames.

Ken Washer, Deputy Fire Chief with the City of Madison Fire Department stated the crews kept the fire contained to the second floor, but the t-shirt shop on the first floor had a significant amount of water damage.

The fire was reported around 6:30 a.m. Friday morning and the residents of the apartments above the store were not injured in the fire.

A member of the fire crew did go to the hospital for smoke inhalation and was released a little later, stated Ken Washer.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
