Also on outstanding warrant
On Monday, Sheriff Gosser responded to a complaint about a subject stealing hemp from a local farm. Upon arrival and after an investigation, a male subject was charged with criminal trespassing and arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken to the Carroll County Detention Center.
Carroll County Deputies have responded to several complaints of industrial hemp being stolen from growing areas. Although the plants look like marijuana, the hemp has no substantial THC in it. The plots are periodically inspected by the Kentucky State Police to ensure no marijuana is being grown. Each grower must have a permit and the fields are regulated under state laws.
Individuals stealing the hemp cannot get “high” off of these plants. The sheriff’s office will investigate and prosecute against anyone caught stealing the hemp farmer’s crops.
