Sending priority mail packages to residents

Scammers are sending priority mail packages to residents in the Carroll Co. community asking them to be a member of the Secret Shoppers Club. Included in the mailing is a large denomination check in the name of the addressee. The scammers instruct the addressee to deposit the check in their bank account then buy Wal-Mart Gift Cards and send the numbers off the card back to the Secret Shoppers Club allegedly to check on Wal-Mart's customer service.

The real story is that the check will be returned for non sufficient funds, the scammers will cash the Wal-Mart cards and the victim will get nothing but an empty bank account.

When unknown persons try to give someone something of value for nothing, it is always a scam. If you receive one of these priority mail packages do not attempt to deposit the check and do not converse with the scammers by phone, text or email.

Residents not only in Carroll Co. but surrounding counties should also beware.
