(Scott County, Ind.) - Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin announced today that the Scottsburg City Fire Department was called to investigate a small fire that broke out at the jail this morning.
Sheriff Goodin reported that around 7:30 a.m., jail officers began smelling smoke just before the jail's fire alarms began sounding. According to the sheriff, a stack of freshly washed towels that were located in an isolated hallway near the kitchen spontaneously combusted and began smoking.
As a result of the fire, a Jail Officer was transported to Scott Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation and later released.
No inmates were exposed to the smoke or fire.
