School & Area Police urge use of caution

Officials urge young women to stay safe in pairs

Madison School Corp:

We have been alerted to a few things circulating on social media regarding local activity around young women being approached by suspicious men in our community.  Reports indicate that the police were notified and it seems that both young ladies were very alert, diligent, knew what to do, and are SAFE!  

We would like to encourage you to talk with your children about personal safety.  Remind them to be aware of their surroundings, always have a friend or someone with them, avoid secluded areas, stay where others can see them, and what to do in case they are in a situation where they do not feel comfortable.  

This is a good reminder that we all must be careful and mindful of our surroundings at all times and #pairsaresafer!

From Madison Police Chief John Wallace:

Tuesday September 1, 2020, Madison Police responded to the River Pointe Shopping Center reference a suspicious person.  Caller reported an unknown male approached them and followed them to the door of a store.  

Officers responded to the area and located the male in question.  It was determined the male was trying to sell a gift card, he had in his possession, for the store in which the caller was entering.   

In this incident the caller set a good example of what a person should do, the suspicious person was identified and no police action was warranted.  

If you suspect something is not right, notify the police immediately or have someone assist you.  If possible, get yourself to a safe place immediately.
