Online sales tax to be collected starting October 1 in Indiana

Same sales tax as buying in store

The Indiana Department of Revenue announced that the Internet sales tax will go into effect for the Hoosier state today (October 1, 2018)

Indiana will start collecting sales tax from out-of-state retailers.

Last month, the Supreme Court ruled states can collect taxes from online retailers.

The decision overrules a 1992 Supreme Court precedent.

The General Accountability Office said states missed out on more than $13 million last year in additional tax income from online sales.
