(Madison, Ind.) – On December 19, the City of Madison Fire and Police Departments responded to the report of a garage fire at the 1200 block of Wells Drive.

Units reported a fully involved structure fire upon arrival.

Crews made contact with the residents confirming that all occupants had exited the structure prior to the arrival of fire crews. The fire department reported that fire suppression efforts were initially delayed due to a downed power line that was still fully energized.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Madison Fire Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s Office.

The City of Madison Fire Department is reminding residents that in case of fire, a closed-door can isolate the fire’s flow, reduce room temperatures and keep carbon monoxide levels down.
