(Highland Heights, KY.) – In just a short time, COVID-19 disrupted the lives of millions around the globe, including the students at Northern Kentucky University.

In the wake of this new reality, NKU created a COVID-19 Students Emergency Fund to support students.

At this time NKU has given 442 “gifts” have been given out through the Student Emergency Fund to total $59,705.00 in donations to support students who are now finding themselves with financial struggles they didn’t see coming.

Donations help students by providing them with things such as:

  • Food, toiletries, and funding for necessary medications
  • Any educational-related expenses as NKU moves to online classes
  • Money for travel for students who may need to go home or to and from work
  • Funds for unmet financial costs due to loss of employment
  • Student wages unable to be earned due to closures

“I am not able to work my one job at all. I can only get very limited hours at my second job due to it being based on providing services in the community. Knowing that I will not have income for an unknown amount of time has been tremendously stressful. The primary reason I applied for assistance through the COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund is that I know I will not be getting another paycheck, and I don’t have any other sources of income. Once the COVID-19 pandemic is over, I’m looking forward to getting together with the people I love and care about, getting back to work, and having a sense of normalcy most of all," said recipient Suzanne.

To apply for funds, visit the NKU Community Care Team website.

If you know a student who needs assistance, reach out to the NKU Community Care Team, visit the website, or call 859-572-5147.

Also if you would like to make a donation all that are made up until April 30 they will be matched up to $10,000.
