New Versailles District Squad Leader Named

Sgt. Black resides in Ripley County

 Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter announced that Trooper Jared Black, a Ripley County, Indiana resident is being promoted to sergeant to serve as a District Squad Leader with the Indiana State Police, Versailles District.

Sgt. Black is a 2000 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School in Osgood, Indiana. After high school he attended Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis where he majored in Criminal Justice. He attended and graduated from the 65th Indiana State Police Academy in April 2006. After graduation, Sgt. Black was assigned to the Seymour District of the Indiana State Police until its closing in 2010. He was then transferred to the Versailles District where he patrolled Ripley County.

As a trooper, Sgt. Black has been a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon, a field training officer, and a firearms instructor. He additionally has been given awards for competing and winning Indiana State Police firearm proficiency competitions. In 2013, Sgt. Black was given a Bronze Star for his bravery in the line of duty.

Sgt. Black was promoted after completing the rigorous Indiana State Police promotional process which included performance evaluations, written testing, oral interview, and review by the Indiana State Police Superintendent.

Sgt. Black’s new responsibilities include supervising and evaluating a squad of troopers who patrol the Versailles District.

Lt. Adams recently stated, “Sgt. Black has been an extremely hardworking trooper throughout his career and is very deserving of this promotion. He truly represents the values of the Indiana State Police and I believe his experience and knowledge will be an asset in his new role.”
