K9 Colt

The Madison Police Department is proud to introduce our newest officer, K9 Colt. Colt is a 1 ½ year old Belgian Malinois who has been trained as a dual purpose police service dog. Colt and his handler, Ptl. Phillip Wimpee, have been training together for the past several months. Colt and Ptl. Wimpee were recently certified in narcotics detection through the International Police Work Dog Association. Colt and Ptl. Wimpee will continue their training to achieve certifications in tracking, evidence searches, criminal searches/apprehensions, and handler protection. Ptl. Wimpee and Colt will join Capt. Rick Mundt and his K9 partner Zimo, bringing the MPD K9 division to full strength after K9 Max was retired in May 2018.

Ptl. Wimpee and Colt will be primarily focused on narcotics interdiction. If you see Colt and Ptl. Wimpee on patrol, feel free to congratulate them on their hard work and success.
