Madison Woman Arrested On Child Abuse Charges

The initial investigation revealed that a five-month-old male was brought into the emergency room with a near-fatal brain hemorrhage.

(Madison, Ind.) – On April 24, at approximately 7:21 p.m. the Madison Police Department responded to King’s Daughters’ Health Emergency Room in reference to possible child abuse.

Detectives Kyle Cutshaw and Ricky Harris are leading this investigation with the assistance of Madison Police Department Senior Patrolman Aaron Watson.

The initial investigation revealed that a five-month-old male was brought into the emergency room with a near-fatal brain hemorrhage, after being treated at KDH, the infant was transported to Louisville, Kentucky for additional treatment.

Detectives Cutshaw and Harris interviewed the mother of the infant, Destany Jae Burge, 19, of Madison. After the interview with the mother, along with other information obtained during the interview, detectives established probable cause to arrest Burge.

Destany Jae Burge faces preliminary alleged charges of neglect of a dependent (Level 3 felony) and false informing (Class A misdemeanor).

 Burge was remanded to the custody of the Jefferson County Jail, where she awaits her initial court appearance on the preliminary alleged charges and has the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.

 The investigation is ongoing, and the Madison Police Department is being assisted by the Indiana Department of Child Services.
