MADISON MAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR DEALING METHAMPHETAMINE

On probation when arrested

                                    campton

Jefferson County, Indiana (February 14, 2024) – Russell M. Campton, 48, of Madison, has been sentenced to a total of 15 years, for a Level 2 felony charge of dealing in methamphetamine, announced Jefferson County Prosecutor David R. Sutter.  Pursuant to his sentence, 12 years will be executed with 3 years suspended.

Campton will serve his sentence in the Indiana Department of Corrections following his guilty plea entered in Jefferson Circuit Court on Jan. 24.

"This sentence reflects the severity of the crime committed and serves as a significant step in combating drug-related activities in our community," stated Sutter. "Removing individuals involved in drug trafficking from our streets for an extended period contributes to the safety and well-being of our citizens."

The sentencing stems from an investigation initiated by law enforcement last spring after receiving reports of suspected drug trafficking. Campton was apprehended in June on multiple felony drug charges.

"I extend my gratitude to Detective Kyle Cutshaw and the City of Madison Police Department for their diligent efforts in this investigation," added Sutter. "Their commitment to upholding law and order in our city is commendable, and their dedication to ensuring justice is served is evident."

At the time of his arrest, Campton was already on probation. In February 2023, he pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, resulting in a sentence of 362 days of supervised probation.

The successful prosecution of this case underscores the collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the Prosecutor's Office in addressing drug-related crimes and safeguarding the community.
