MADISON MAN ARRESTED FOR DEALING SUSPECTED FENTANYL

Lengthy investigation led to the arrest

In September 2024, MPD Detectives received information identifying Joseph "Hunter" Ehlers, 23, Madison, as a source of fentanyl in Jefferson County. Detectives immediately initiated an investigation, purchasing nearly $1,800 worth of suspected fentanyl from Ehlers during several controlled narcotics purchases. On October 17, 2024, Detectives were granted an arrest warrant for Ehlers out of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Ehlers was taken into custody during a traffic stop, where he was found to be in possession of more suspected fentanyl, a handgun, and a large amount of currency. Ehlers is currently being housed in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Joseph Hunter Ehlers, 23, Madison:

Dealing in Cocaine or a Narcotic Drug - level 2 felony

Possession of Cocaine or a Narcotic Drug - level 5 felony - 2 counts

Possession of Cocaine or a Narcotic Drug - level 6 felony - 2 counts

In addition to the charges listed above, more dealing related charges are expected to be filed against Ehlers stemming from the evidence collected during the traffic stop.

Criminal charges are merely accusations, and Ehlers has the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in a court of law.
