Madison JCPenney Closing Permanently

The store closing sales for the first round of closures are expected to take 10-16 weeks to complete.

(undated) - J.C. Penny Company announced yesterday that the chain will be closing 154, including the store at River Pointe complex, in the near future.

These closures are part of its "store optimizing strategy" after filing for bankruptcy protection last month.

"The closings will begin after a June 11 bankruptcy-related hearing in Texas", said the company. "It makes sense to reduce our footprint and focus on resources on our stronger stores and powerful e-commerce flagship store, jcp.com."

The store closing sales for the first round of closures are expected to take 10-16 weeks to complete.

"While closing stores is always an extremely difficult decision, our store optimization strategy is vital to ensuring we emerge from both Chapter 11 and the COVID-19 pandemic as a stronger retailer with greater financial flexibility to allow us to continue serving our loyal customers for decades to come," said Chief Executive Jill Soltau.

Other stores around the area include:

Indianapolis, NW Pavilion at Michigan Road, Bedford Town Fair, Richmond Square.
