(Madison, Ind.) – The Lanier Mansion has named a new site manager in Derek Peck.

Peck who earned his Bachelor of Science in History from Middle Tennessee State University, has worked as a historical interpreter and reclamation guide in the states of Tennessee and Mississippi along with historical sites such as the Hoover Dam and Redwood National along with State Parks.

Peck most recently worked as a supervisory visitor use assistant at Redwood National and State Parks in California. In that role, he managed recreational facilities within the national and state parks.

“Commemorating the life of Indiana’s economic savior during the American Civil War is critical,” Peck said. “It is thrilling to join the mission of preserving James Lanier’s legacy. The opportunity to assimilate into Madison’s community is equally exciting.”

Lanier Mansion is one of the best examples of Greet Revival architecture in the country and is considered to “Crown Jewel” of Madison’s Historic District. James Franklin Doughty Lanier was one of Madison’s pioneers. His activities in banking and railroad development made him one of the most important figures in Indiana’s history. Lanier moved to Madison in 1817 where he practiced law and served as clerk of the Indiana General Assembly in the 1820s.

Peck will start in his new position on January 4, 2021.
