Pruitt resigned rather than being fired

Kentucky has a new public education chief, and this one has the backing of the governor.

Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt yesterday resigned rather than being fired by a new Board of Education.

His replacement is University of Kentucky professor, Dr. Wayne Lewis.

Critics say Lewis is a supporter of charter schools.

Governor Matt Bevin yesterday said that he was unhappy with the state's low performance on standardized tests, but said the Board of Education made the decision about Pruitt.
