Jefferson County, Neighboring Counties See Increase In Unemployment Rates

The unemployment rate in Jefferson County still remains lower than that of the state which is 4.7 percent.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released unemployment rates for Indiana counties for the month of January yesterday.

Jefferson County saw an increase in the number of unemployed residents. For January, the unemployment rate stands at 4.2 percent, a .3 percent increase.

Currently, Jefferson County is ranked 43rd for unemployment percentage out of 92 Indiana counties. The unemployment rate in Jefferson County still remains lower than that of the state which is 4.7 percent.

As for neighboring counties, Switzerland County was ranked 15th at 5.1 percent, Jennings county was ranked 17th at 5.0 percent, Scott County was ranked 20th at 4.9 percent, and Ripley County was ranked 71st with 3.6 percent.

All five counties saw an increase in unemployment rates.
