Courthouse Update: Starting Monday, October 3rd, the Courthouse will implement a new security process. When entering the courthouse, you will be asked to place your bag or purse through a bag scanner for screening. You will also be asked to walk through our existing metal detector.

Here a few tips to make your visit more efficient:

• If you are in a hurry or simply coming in to pay taxes or court fees, only bring your necessary items inside.

• Weapons of any kind are not permitted in the building. (Pocket knives, sharp objects, etc.)

• When attending court hearings, cell phones are prohibited from the 2nd and 3rd floor court rooms. We ask that you leave all cell phones in your vehicle. We do have a cell phone locker on the first floor if you are unable to leave a phone in a car.

• Please do not bring your drugs or paraphernalia into the courthouse. If you do, you will be kindly escorted to jail booking where you will be booked into our jail.

Our new bag scanner will highlight any items that are recognizable or finds suspicious, which will flag our security guard to perform a more thorough check. Jefferson County is proud to have this process, which will make our citizens and employees inside the building, much safer. Please be patient with our security guard staff when entering the building
