The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released monthly employment reports for Indiana’s cities and counties, detailing job data for March.

The monthly unemployment rate is a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicator that reflects the number of unemployed people seeking employment within the prior four weeks as a percentage of the labor force.

Jefferson County’s unemployment rate for March was 3.8 percent, that’s an increase from March 2018 when the rate was 3.4 percent, but it is a decrease from February of this year when the rate was 4.1 percent. Jefferson County came in under the state average of 3.9 percent.

Among the neighboring counties, Clark and Switzerland joined Jefferson under the state average at 3.7 and 3.8 percent. Scott was 4.2, Jennings 4.4, and Ripley 4.1 came in over the state average.
