Along with neglect of a dependent

On November 19, 2019, Johnny Wood was convicted of multiple felonies, including Dealing Methamphetamine, and Possession of Methamphetamine as Level 5 Felonies, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance and Neglect of a Dependent, as Level 6 Felonies.

Prosecutor David Sutter expressed his thanks to the jury following the trial, “The members of the jury carefully considered all evidence. I thank them for their service and commitment in listening to hours of testimony and thoughtfully deliberating before reaching their verdicts.”

Law enforcement investigated Johnny Wood’s residence located at 10958 Reynolds Road, Dupont, IN for suspected methamphetamine activity this summer. On July 25, 2019 the Indiana State Police applied for and received a search warrant for the residence. During the execution of the warrant, methamphetamine was found in multiple locations, including on the person of Johnny Wood. Wood admitted that he was a middle man to set up meth deals and he further admitted that he had been consuming methamphetamine on the property for about 8 months. A search of his cell phone revealed numerous messages from people asking to buy meth from Wood. A garage on the property was found to contain numerous small plastic bags, digital scales, and multiple items of drug paraphernalia. Wood’s 2-year-old child was present during the execution of the search warrant.

“I want to give a special thanks to Trooper Randel Miller, Trooper David Owsley, and Trooper Joe May for their excellent work on this case. We were able to secure this conviction based upon their dedication to investigate methamphetamine use and distribution in Jefferson County,” said Sutter.

This case was prosecuted by Prosecutor Sutter and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Elizabeth Stigdon. Mr. Wood will be sentenced in the Jefferson Circuit Court on January 15, 2020.
