Jefferson Co. Jail Suspending Programs

The sheriff confirmed in a statement today that there will be no non-essential personnel allowed in the facility.

(Jefferson County, Ind.) - All programs are being suspended at the Jefferson County Jail effective immediately.

The sheriff confirmed in a statement today that there will be no non-essential personnel allowed in the facility.

“We are doing this as a precautionary measure to help prevent the Coronavirus from entering the facility,” stated Sheriff Thomas.

It is important to note that this is only a precaution and that the jail is taking these steps to keep the inmates, staff, and general public safe. There are currently no cases of the Coronavirus within the facility.

The sheriff said, “We appreciate your understanding as we take as many precautionary measures as we can for the safety of our facility.”

The jail also released its precautions that they are taking when booking inmates.

Booking:

New intakes, including transports brought here by another facility, must have their temperature checked prior to being accepted into the facility. The jail will accept inmates if their temperature is over 100.4 degrees, but they must be isolated.

 Visitors:

Must have their temperature checked prior to entering the facility, if it is above 100.4 they will not be allowed to enter. Their appointment will be canceled.
