(Jeffersonville, Ind.) - Indiana State Police are investigating after a suspect was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. near the intersection of Middle Road and Loma Vista Court in Jeffersonville. According to Sergent Carey Huls with the Indiana State Police Sellersburg, an ISP trooper pulled the vehicle driven by a woman over for broken tail lights. As the trooper was approaching the vehicle, he realized there was some form of a medical situation, at which point he requested an ambulance.
Shortly after, shots were exchanged between the trooper and the male passenger. The male was taken to the University of Louisville hospital where he later died.
At this time it is not known to officials why the shots were exchanged.
No officers were injured during the shooting. Police have not yet released information on the male subject regarding his name or age.
