(Scottsburg, Ind.) - On Thursday, June 18, 38-year-old Candace Jones, was arrested on multiple charges surrounding the death of a female infant who was in her care last year.

Yesterday, investigators identified the death of the infant as Sudden Unexplained Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

According to a report from WDRB, the probable cause affidavit found that Jones was providing care for as many as 10 children in her home on May 30, 2019, when she placed the 6-month-old girl on an adult size mattress. Investigators stated that she left the baby on her stomach and surrounded her with comforters and blankets.

Later in the day when the child's mother came to pick her up the infant was on her back with the comforter on top of her, she was later than pronounced dead at the Scott County Memorial Hospital.

WDRB reported, that the autopsy found the cause of death being determined as Sudden Unexplained Infant Death Syndrome, with the contributing factor being an unsafe sleeping environment.

Jones' daycare was unlicensed.

Jones is currently being held in the Scott County Jail.
