Hoosier Teacher Wages Decrease As Need For Teachers Increase

Teachers in Indiana earn 16 percent less now than they did 20 years ago

The U.S. Department of Education says teachers in Indiana earn 16 percent less now than they did 20 years ago.

Experts say this is driving the shortage of teachers in the Hoosier state.

Some education experts say the demands made in the classroom are increasing as pay decreases.

Indiana Commission for Higher Education data shows those graduating with teaching degrees declined 37 percent from 2004 to 2014.
