Town Of Hanover To Receive $ 648,000 From ARP

Town of Hanover should receive about $648,000 over the next two years from the American Rescue Act that was approved as part of a federal economic stimulus plan, also called the COVID-19 Stimulus Package.

Clerk-Treasurer Keith Mefford said the money will be distributed in 2021 and 2022 and must be used by Dec. 31, 2024. He said right now there are “no immediate plans on how best to spend that money, but there are pretty clear responsibilities and approved expenses that will be eligible”

Also During The Meeting :

Approved the first reading of an ordinance adjusting the speed limit for some town streets from 20 mph to 30 mph. If future readings of the ordinance are approved, streets increasing to 30 mph will be Kuntz Road, Thornton Road, Greenbrier Road, Main Street and Madison Avenue. Main Cross will also increase to 30 mph except when school lights are flashing Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 1 through June 1.

Approved the expenditure of $3,804.50 to purchase five new body cameras and an extra charger for the Hanover Town Police.Officer Max Gibson provided an explanation of how the cameras work including that they actually begin capturing recordings several seconds before the officer presses the record button.

Approved purchase of two trucks, one costing $28,000 for the utilities department and another costing $12,500 for the building inspector/nuisance officer.

 Heard a report by Mefford that recent smoke testing revealed 134 deficiencies in the town’s manholes, sewer lines and drainage system and that so far 17 of those issues have been addressed and corrected.
