Gov. Holcomb Proclaimed This Week to be EMA Appreciation Week

(Indiana) - The Indiana Department of Homeland Security using this week to celebrate the tireless dedication of the state’s emergency management personnel during the first-ever EMA Appreciation Week February 24-28.

In Jefferson County, there are only two compensated EMAs the remainder are volunteers.

Director Troy Morgan said, “Without their tireless efforts our work would be nearly impossible, when you see one of them his week or any time for that matter, please let them know you appreciate what they are doing for us.”

The emergency management agency personnel are responsible for a wide variety of tasks. Some of their responsibilities include assisting with drafting disaster response plans, working with state and federal government agencies and recovery training that include the community’s first responders.

This week Governor Holcomb proclaimed to be EMA Appreciation Week so that, “Hoosiers can learn more about these dedicated individuals.”

Morgan also said, “To my colleagues here in the EMA Office, Thank You. I appreciate everything you do for the citizens of Jefferson County. Without your time and talents, we could not provide the citizens of our community with the level of professional service they deserve.”

According to a FEMA report, the idea of an emergency management agency formed in the response to World War I. The concept transformed through the years into the structure that it is today as a collaborative response and recovery to emergencies across private organizations, volunteer agencies and all levels of government.
