(Indianapolis, Ind.) – With Memorial Day right around the corner, Hoosiers who are wanting to socially celebrate can now do so due to a change in state regulations.

During yesterday's COVID-19 update from the Indiana Statehouse, Governor Eric Holcomb announced that Phase Three of his back on track place will be moved up from its original date.

With the current data that has been collected, state officials have decided to move the beginning of Stage Three to 12:01 a.m. on Friday, May 22. This change excludes the areas which are still experiencing large numbers of coronavirus cases, such as Marion, Lake, and Cass counties.

“We have earned the ability to continue to move forward,” said Governor Holcomb.

Stage Three changes include:

  • Social Gatherings of up to 100 or more people
  • Restaurant dining rooms remain open at 50 percent capacity
  • Retail stores, malls open to 75 percent capacity
  • Gyms, YMCAs fitness studios may open with restrictions
  • Community pools, campgrounds may open
  • Recreation sports practices may begin, following guidelines
    • Contact sports are prohibited
  • Basketball, tennis, soccer and basketball courts/ fields may open
  • Youth summer day camps may begin June 1 (this will change later on in Stage Three)
  • Raceways can begin competition with no spectators
  • State park inns will be reopening

Governor Holcomb signed this executive order yesterday.

This new executive order will extend the prohibition of turning off utilities and filing mortgage foreclosures, and evictions. The deadline will also be extended to acquire or renew drivers’ licenses, vehicle registrations, and similar BMV documentation. These will all be extended to July 1.

Governor Holcomb reminds all Hoosiers that while some restrictions are being lifted, the fight is not over.

Hoosiers who are 65 and older or those Hoosiers who are considered high-risk individuals should remain cautious and limit exposure. Face coverings remain recommended for everyone.
