Drug Take Back This Saturday

King’s Daughters’ Hospital Medical Office Building

On September 15th, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Jefferson County Health Department in partnership with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, City of Madison Police Department and King’s Daughters’ Hospital will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs and syringes. Bring your pills and/or syringes for disposal to King’s Daughters’ Hospital Medical Office Building at 1373 E SR 62, Madison. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Please remember you can also bring used syringes to the Jefferson County Health Department, 715 Green Road, Madison, anytime during office hours, Monday thru Friday, 8am-4pm. Unused/unwanted medications can be dropped off anytime at the City of Madison Police Department or at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office during regular administration office hours, Monday thru Friday, 8am-4pm.
