Cigarette Litter Clean Up Planned in Recognition of Earth Day

MADISON, Ind. – In conjunction with the Jefferson County Tobacco Coalition, the Healthy Communities Initiative of Jefferson County will host a cigarette litter clean up event beginning at the Broadway Fountain on Monday, April 23 at 4 p.m., in recognition of Earth Day.

Cigarette butts are the most commonly littered item in the world, creating an estimated 1.69 billion pounds of waste each year. This type of litter is not biodegradable & decomposes only 38 percent after two years.

Gloves, collection bags, hand sanitizer & bottled water will be provided.
