Armed Robbery Reported in Jennings Co. Leads to Arrest

During the traffic stop, officers found a handgun matching the description of the handgun used in the robbery was located.

(Jennings County, Ind.) - On Thursday, May 14, Deputies with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a location in Vernon in reference to an armed robbery that has just occurred.

The caller reported that a male subject has produced a handgun and held it to the caller's head and took an undisclosed amount of money from the caller, then fled the area in a silver Pontiac Grand Prix.

As the investigation progressed, a suspect and vehicle description were obtained. The suspect and vehicle descriptions were broadcasted to area Law Enforcement. Approximately 20 minutes after the robbery occurred, unites with the Indiana State Police All Crimes Policing Unit located and stopped the suspect vehicle on U.S. Highway 50 near the Jennings County, Jackson County line.

During the traffic stop, officers found a handgun matching the description of the handgun used in the robbery was located. Also located were money, Marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

David R. Eggert, 19, of Wabash was then taken into custody.

Eggery was later transported to the Jennings County Jail where he is currently being held on the following charges:

  • Robbery (L3 Felony)
  • Pointing a Firearm (L6 Felony)
  • Poss. of a Firearm by a convicted felon (L5 Felony)
  • Poss. of a Firearm without a permit (L5 Felony)
  • Poss. of Marijuana less 30g (A Misd)
  • Poss. of paraphernalia (A M Misd)

 Deputy Ian McPherson lead the investigation and was assisted by Sgt. Mike Mowery, Deputy Kyle Lee, Deputy Tyler Bozwell, Sheriff Kenny Freeman, Chief Deputy David Turner, Jennings County Sheriff's Office Detective Division, and members of the Indiana State Police.
