(Versailles, Ind.) – Wintertime is here which means that it is time to take a plunge into freezing water.

Registration for the 2021 Polar Plunge is now open to benefit Special Olympics Indiana.

Over $920,000 was raised with more than 3,500 plungers setting an all-time high for the event. Money raised supports year-round events and programs for special Olympians across the state.

Due to the pandemic, this year’s event will look a little different.

Traditionally held in February and early March, the 2021 Polar Plunge season will take place across a longer period to best meet the needs of each venue, with some event dates are to be determined.

In order to limit the crowds and to ensure social distancing guidelines, some Polar Plunge events will use segmented schedules with multiple plunge times spread throughout the day. Spectators will also be limited.

Plungers must be at least 12 years old on the day of the event or have consent from a parent or legal guardian. All participants must raise a minimum of $75.

Plungers may also participate in the new virtual setting. Be an Angel for Special Olympics Indiana by dressing up or making a snow angel and sharing a photo on social media using #EarnedMyWings.

Those who are wanting to participate in the Be an Angel or Polar Plunge Run events will be asked to pay a $25 minimum registration fee. Take your fundraising to the next level by raising an additional $50 ($75 total) and you’ll earn a custom #EarnedMyWings race medal.
